UNION, N.J. – The No. 9 TCNJ women's lacrosse team capped an unbeaten NJAC campaign in style on Saturday, getting huge performances from
Marissa Lucca and
Ally Tobler in a 22-6 road rout at Kean.
Lucca and Tobler each paired four goals with five assists and had plenty of help in the form of
Katherine Naiburg (4G),
CJ Kole (1G/5A),
Morgan Vaccaro (3G/1A), and
Natalie Berry (3G). TCNJ assisted on 17 of its 22 goals and scored eight times in each of the first two quarters.
FOR THE RECORD
- The Lions end the regular season at 12-4 overall and 5-0 in the NJAC, while Kean concluded its campaign at 9-8 and 1-4 in conference play
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Kean stuck with the Lions early, taking 1-0 and 2-1 leads inside the first four minutes and change
- TCNJ ran wild after that, scoring a remarkable 15 unanswered goals
- Naiburg scored on a feed from Madison Wernik to tie it at 2 before Lucca set up back-to-back tallies from Vaccaro and Tobler as the visitors began to assert control
- Berry scored her first of the day just 27 seconds after Tobler, and she followed with a woman-up marker before goals by Lucca and Naiburg extended the margin to 8-2 at the end of the first quarter
- The barrage continued in the second quarter. Wernik got on the board and Lucca potted back-to-back goals – three goals in the span of 51 seconds – to quickly make it 11-2 before Tobler pushed the margin into double digits at the 12:20 mark of the frame
- Tobler capped the first-half scoring – and the 15-0 spurt – with a goal with 1:01 left in the half as the Lion went into intermission with a 16-2 advantage
- Kean ended a drought of nearly 30 minutes of game time with the opening goal of the second half but never got closer than 13 the rest of the way
- Gabriella Roosa and Kole scored second-half goals for TCNJ
FOR THE FOES
- Kylie Giordano scored three goals and added an assist to go with eight draw controls
- Amanda Brzoska dished out three helpers
- Nicole Peters made eight saves
STANDOUT LIONS
- Lucca scored on all but one of her shots and finished with career highs in assists and points
- Tobler also registered career bests in assists and points and racked up seven draws
- Kole's five assists were a new season high
- Naiburg tied her career high with four goals
- Vaccaro notched her second straight hat-trick
- Berry posted her third hat-trick of the season
- Wernik piled up five ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers in addition to a goal and an assist
- Kira Sides had a team-high three caused turnovers
- Meghan Hogan, Kaitlyn Birnbohm-Kaminski, and Emily Potenza all picked up a pair of caused turnovers
- Julia Charest made four saves
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- TCNJ outshot Kean, 31-13, and put a staggering 30 of its shots on target
- TCNJ had slight edges in draws (18-13) and ground balls (17-13)
NOTES
- Tobler moved into 8th on the all-time scoring list with 259 career points
- Tobler's 83 draw controls are tied for 8th-most in a single season at TCNJ
- Lucca now has 50 goals on the season, second to Tobler's 61
