Women's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Stalemate at Stevens

HOBOKEN, N.J. – The No. 11 TCNJ women's soccer team was unable to break through a stingy Stevens defense on Saturday, settling for a scoreless stalemate.

TCNJ outshot the Ducks, 13-5 – including 9-2 after halftime – and put seven of those efforts on target, but the home side managed to keep the high-powered visitors off the board.

The Lions got little going in the first 45, but upped the pressure in the second half. In the 51st minute, Ava Curtis forced a leaping save from the Ducks keeper with a right-footed rocket that was headed for the top right corner of the net. Curtis was back at it later, sending a long free kick toward the lower right corner of the net, but Stevens goalie Madelyn Nau was there to dive on it.

TCNJ peppered Nau with a flurry midway through the second stanza. The first came from Victoria D'Imperio, who won a loose ball in the box and nearly beat Nau near post. D'Imperio latched onto a header off the rebound and passed to Emily Weidner, who set up Alyssa Alfano with a nifty side-heel pass, but Alfano couldn't get enough on her shot to beat Nau.

The last chance came with just over six minutes remaining, when Curtis ripped a long-range free kick and forced another sliding save with a dipping shot that took a big bounce in the box.
