EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ Department of Athletics has announced that Andy Edwards has been promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Communications and Game Operations.
Edwards moves into the role previously held by Barry Beal, now the Director of Athletics at Penn State Berks. He has served as Sports Information Coordinator since 2021.
"I'm thrilled to announce Andy Edwards will be promoted to the Assistant AD for Communications position," said Amanda V. DeMartino, who served as Director of Athletics for the last seven years before stepping down to take on a new role at Colby. "Andy has been an exceptional staff member and tremendous addition to the Athletic Department since his arrival in 2021. His passion, work ethic and attention to detail, along with his knowledge of and experience with TCNJ Athletics made him an ideal fit for the position. I look forward to watching Andy continue to flourish as he grows in this new leadership position."
Prior to TCNJ, Edwards spent six years as director of athletic communications at Ursinus College, where he oversaw all media relations efforts for the Bears' 25-sport Division III athletics program. Edwards served as primary media contact for all sports and was responsible for managing a large student staff in addition to coordinating live streaming, graphic design, and social media for the athletic department.
During his tenure at Ursinus, Edwards successfully nominated multiple athletes for CoSIDA Academic All-District awards and expanded the college's live streaming offerings to include 15 sports, many of which featured multi-camera broadcasts and student-run commentary. He also grew the Bears' social media accounts to rank third in the Centennial Conference in Twitter and Instagram followers. Edwards penned several feature stories for Ursinus Magazine while increasing local and regional media coverage for the college's student-athletes.
Edwards started his athletic communications career in 2013 as an assistant at Muhlenberg College, then spent two years as assistant director of athletic communications at Chestnut Hill College before taking over at Ursinus. He is the co-founder of CityofBasketballLove.com, a website devoted to coverage of Philadelphia-area basketball, and spent three years as a reporter and assistant sports editor at
The Daily Local News in West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Edwards is a two-time regional winner of CoSIDA's Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest, including one for a
story on longtime TCNJ women's soccer coach Joe Russo and his "Last Ride" to the 2021 NCAA championship game.
A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Edwards graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in psychology.
