Late Goal Sinks Men's Soccer in TCNJ Classic Finale

EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ men's soccer team conceded a late goal and ran into some tough luck in a 1-0 setback to visiting Union (N.Y.) in the finale of the TCNJ Men's Soccer Classic on Sunday.

A foul in the box gave the Garnet Chargers (2-2) a penalty with 7:30 left in regulation, and Lucas Crowley made no mistake from the spot to break a scoreless deadlock.

TCNJ (0-2-2) came within a whisker of grabbing another late equalizer. Less than a minute later, the Union goalkeeper flubbed a throw and the ball went directly to Matias Hornos, who leaned back and fired on an open not only to see the shot ricochet off the left post and out. The Lions continued to push but were unable to break through.

Union held a 12-4 shot advantage in the second half, but the first was an evenly matched affair. Colin Rentner made an incredible diving save at the 18-minute mark, leaping to his left to palm away a strong shot.

The Lions had the better of the later stages of the opening half, generating two corners and a couple chances on headers in the final minute of the frame.

Hornos set up a golden chance early in the second half, dribbling through a host of defenders before laying a pass off for Massimo Rodio, but the latter dragged his shot just wide of the left post.
