COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Garrett Totten,
James Romaine, and
D.J. Henry all won individual titles as the TCNJ wrestling team placed third at Ursinus' Will Abele Invitational on Saturday.
Totten won at 133 pounds, while Romaine (184) and Henry (197) joined him as tournament champions.
Colin Menier (133),
Dan Hong (141), and
Matt Coon (285) all placed third for the Lions.
Luke Reitter (133) and
Jimmy Dolan (174) took sixth, while
Dave Giulian finished seventh at 184.
TOP PERFORMANCES
- Totten stayed unbeaten since joining the Lions as a transfer from Navy, racking up two technical falls and pinning his opponent in the championship bout in just over a minute
- Romaine pinned his first three opponents in successive fashion before gutting out a pair of tough contests; he defeated Ursinus' Nils Updale, 8-5, in the semifinals before edging AIC's Jack Mackiernan, 3-2, in the title bout
- Henry cruised through the 197-pound bracket with back-to-back technical falls and a 14-2 major in the semifinals before claiming the title via medical forfeit
- Menier advanced to the semifinals at 133 before falling to his teammate Totten, but rebounded to notch an 8-0 major decision in the third-place match
- Hong got to the semifinals with three wins – including a tech fall and a major decision – before dropping a 5-0 decision to Ursinus' Andrew Schaen. He then eked out a 10-9 win over a wrestler from Shenandoah to take third
- Coon pinned his first two opponents before conceding his semifinal bout to ESU's Layton Schmick
- Reitter gave TCNJ three place-winners at 133, posting three tech falls and a major decision
- After an initial loss, Dolan bounced back to claim his next four bouts
- In his first action of the season, Giulian went 4-2 with three tech falls and a pin
