Field Hockey Powers Past William Paterson

PATERSON, N.J. – The No. 20 TCNJ field hockey team cruised past William Paterson in a xx-0 NJAC rout on Saturday afternoon.

Mackenzie Hart and Isabel Maher each scored twice for the Lions (8-3, 2-0), who easily remained unbeaten in league play heading into next week's highly anticipated showdown with Rowan. Jadyn Huff paired a goal and an assist, and Avery Vacca started the scoring with the first goal of her collegiate career.

Vacca got the Lions off to a quick start with a goal about six minutes after first touch, taking a pass from Rachael Tetzlaff in front of the cage and tapping home her first collegiate goal.

It took the blue and gold a bit to pile on, but the visitors did just that. Maher netted the first of her two goals just past the midway point of the second stanza, hitting in a loose ball to stake the Lions to a 2-0 lead.

TCNJ struck twice around the halftime break, using Huff's goal 25 seconds before intermission and Hart's 21 seconds after – on a feed from Huff – to double its advantage to 4-0.

Maher and Hart later scored 90 seconds apart in the early part of the third quarter to balloon the margin to 6-0.

The Lions' defense gave the Pioneers no openings. WPU did not register a shot, and the first of its mere two corners came in the closing minutes of the third quarter.
