Game Recap: Field Hockey | | Andy Edwards

Hart, Racey Lead Field Hockey to Shutout Win at Marywood

SCRANTON, Pa. – Mackenzie Hart's finishing prowess and Brigitte Racey's quick reflexes proved a potent formula as the No. 23 TCNJ field hockey team cruised to a 4-0 win at Marywood in Wednesday's regular-season road finale.

Hart provided the sparks in the Electric City with a first-half hat-trick, and Racey prevented any fireworks on the part of the home side with a season-high 11 saves to help the Lions (12-4) run their winning streak to four in a game they dominated on the scoreboard but not on the stat sheet.

The Lions struck first off the stick of Emma Jordan, who stuffed home the rebound of Jadyn Huff's saved shot to stake the visitors to a 1-0 lead just four minutes into the contest. That was the only goal of the first period despite the teams combining for a dozen shots (seven for TCNJ and five for Marywood), as Racey and her Pacers counterpart made three saves apiece.

Marywood, which also made a defensive save late in the first quarter to prevent a Julia Neff goal, was not so fortunate early in the second. Following a corner insert, Huff sent a pass across the circle to Hart at the left post, and the senior expertly redirected the ball high and into the top right corner to double the advantage.

Hart got on the board again quickly, finishing a feed from Jordan right in front of the cage to make it 3-0 with 6:10 to go before halftime. She completed her hat-trick just 20 seconds before the break, re-directing Prisha Dhruve's pass into the back of the cage just moments after seeing her close-range effort stoned by the Marywood keeper.

Racey continued to stand tall in the second half, denying a pair of quick-fire shots five minutes into the third period to extend her climb up the program's all-time charts. Marywood racked up seven corners and seven shots in the third quarter alone, and Racey turned away all four of the hosts' on-target efforts.

Racey made two more saves in the fourth, and the Lions were able to see out the game without issue.

STANDOUT LIONS
  • Racey's 11 saves were her most since racking up 13 against Bryn Mawr last September
