EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ wrestling team is squarely back in the national spotlight.
The Lions carry the No. 2 ranking in the NWCA's tournament poll into Thursday night's top-10 showdown at Wisconsin-Whitewater, and a bevy of TCNJ wrestlers are counted among the best in the nation in their respective weight classes.
Hunter Mays is No. 1 in the nation at 174 pounds, while fellow juniors
Garrett Totten and
D.J. Henry are No. 2 at 133 and 197, respectively.
Matthew Griffin sits 10
th at 125,
Sam Kotch is 11
th at 149, and
Matt Coon is 15
th at heavyweight.
Mays and Totten are both returning All-Americans, and Griffin, Kotch, and Henry were all national qualifiers a year ago.
Griffin, Mays, and Henry are all ranked No. 1 in Region 3, where Totten and Coon are second. Kotch is third, while
Steve Dalling (165) and
Jimmy Dolan (184) are both sixth.
Pitt transfer Vincent Santaniello, already 4-0 with three tech falls and a pin in dual matches, is ranked second in the region at 141 pounds.
TCNJ is off to a 4-0 start in duals, with 29 points representing the smallest margin of victory. The Lions, who had three individual champions from their non-starting ranks at the Wilkes Invitational last weekend, will put their lofty rankings to the test with a challenging trip to the Midwest that includes tonight's dual with the 7
th-ranked Warhawks and concludes with the CUW Invitational on Saturday.
