YORK, Pa. – The TCNJ wrestling team sent six wrestlers to the podium of place-winners in a sixth-place overall finish at the New Standard Invitational, which wrapped up Saturday at York.
Joey DeAngelo (125) and
Garrett Totten (133) finished runner-up, while
J.J. Giordano placed third at 149.
Matthew Griffin (125),
Sam Kotch (141), and
Luke Theis (184) all took fifth, and
Colin Menier (149) finished sixth.
Totten got a test from Ithaca's Jay McDonnell in the semifinals, but rallied from a 1-0 third-period deficit with an escape and a takedown in the final minute to seal a 4-1 decision and book his spot in the final. He wasn't able to do the same in the title bout, conceding a narrow 4-3 decision to No. 8 Ethan Spacht of North Central in a bid for his second tournament title of the season.
DeAngelo notched a signature win in the semifinals, grinding out a 3-1 decision against Eastern's Malik Asfour, a 2025 NCAA qualifier who came in ranked 12
th in the country. His reward was a matchup with No. 1-ranked Christian Guzman of North Central, a three-time All-American and two-time NCAA runner-up. DeAngelo lasted to the third period before losing by technical fall and settling for an impressive second place.
Giordano gave top-seeded Evan Lindner everything he could handle in a semifinal showdown that the W&L wrestler only won via riding time at 2-1. Giordano came back with a 10-6 victory over teammate Menier and clinched third place with a 6-1 triumph over North Central's Tyler Starr, the nation's 15
th-ranked wrestler at 149.
Griffin lost in the quarterfinals on Friday night but worked his way through the consolations, edging past Eastern's Jackson Orrell, 10-9, and posting a 10-3 major against North Central's Joey Sikorsky. After a tight 10-9 loss to JWU's Nico Rivera, Griffin claimed fifth by pinning JWU's Mason Franklin in just 71 seconds.
Kotch dropped a tough 5-3 decision to W&L's Skyler Hickman, ranked 15
th nationally, in the 141-pound semifinals. He then took a second loss before downing Eastern's Ryan Mansueto by tech fall (21-5) in the fifth-place bout.
Theis got to the semifinals by way of a 7-6 thriller against Misericordia's Robbie Anderson.
He was pinned by the top seed in the semifinals and lost his first consolation bout, but took fifth with a 4-2 defeat of Anderson in another close rematch.
Menier finished 4-3 for the weekend en route to sixth place at 149.

Andrew Mucciolo (133),
Anthony Viscido (141), and
Konnor Tubin (174) all picked up two wins for the tournament.
Giordano, Kotch, and Totten all reached 50 career wins during the weekend.
The Lions have the rest of 2025 off before returning to action at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa on January 9.
