PITMAN, N.J. - Six members of the TCNJ women's soccer team earned All-NJAC recognition, as released by the league office this morning.
Alyssa Alfano was named to the First Team while
Maggie Murphy,
Isabella Charles and
Caroline Freer garnered Second Team honors, with
Ari Keily and
Abby Najdzinowicz rounding out the Lions' selections with a pair of Honorable Mention nods. This marks the 15th consecutive season TCNJ has had at least six All-Conference honorees.
Â
A Second Team selection a season ago, Alfano made the jump to the First Team following a regular season in which she ranked second in the NJAC in goals (8), assists (5) and points (21) in conference play. The junior was the hottest player in the NJAC at the end of the regular season, compiling seven goals – three of which were game winners – and three assists in the Lions' final six games to help TCNJ clinch the three seed in the NJAC Tournament.
Â
Murphy turned in a strong sophomore campaign en route to the first All-Conference honors of her young career. Appearing in all nine NJAC games with seven starts, Murphy finished second on the team in points (7) coming via two goals and three assists while pacing TCNJ and finishing top five in the conference in shots on goal (15).
Â
Charles' impact in her debut season was felt beyond the box score, with the freshman serving as the stabilizing force in an ever-rotating Lions backline. Playing all but five minutes in conference play, Charles was the key to a TCNJ defense that allowed just 1.11 goals per game, also adding a goal and an assist to her credit on the offensive end.
Â
Freer joined Murphy and Charles on the Second Team with the first such selection of her career. After missing the start of the season due to injury, the junior returned in time for NJAC play and stepped right into the number six spot helping bolster one of the top defenses in the conference. Freer also made her presence felt on the attacking side, tallying a goal and the first two assists of her collegiate career in a pair of NJAC wins.
Â
Keily made the most of her lone year in Ewing, garnering an Honorable Mention nod after finishing the season with one goal and four assists in NJAC play. One of the top offensive threats in the conference, the senior registered all four of her helpers in the Lions' last six games to help keep TCNJ in the hunt for the top overall seed in the NJAC Tournament until the final game of the regular season.
Â
Rounding out the Lions' All-Conference honorees was Najdzinowicz, who finishes her career with a second consecutive Honorable Mention selection. Working alongside Freer in the midfield, the senior captain helped lead a strong TCNJ defensive front while adding one goal in NJAC play. Najdzinowicz used an impressive non-conference slate to finish the season with career-best marks in goals (4), assists (2) and points (10), the latter of which ranked fourth on the team.
