EWING, N.J. – Colin Menier's 133-pound title put a stamp on a day of dominance for the TCNJ wrestling team, which ran away with the Mideast Futures title behind a bevy of place-winners.
Menier was one of 13 wrestlers to earn places for the Lions, who finished with 109 team points to outdistance runner-up Stevens by 17. All but two of TCNJ's 15 entrants managed to land in the top six of their respective weight classes.
Luke Reitter (131),
Ahmed Hussain (141), and
Jack Miller (174) all finished runner-up, while
Luke Theis (184) and
Alejandro Camarena (197) each took third.
Menier posted a pair of pins and a tech fall on his way to the 133-pound final, where he outlasted teammate Reitter, 7-5, in the title bout. Reitter notched a tech fall and a pin of his own among his three wins on the day.
Hussain registered back-to-back tech falls before edging a Gettysburg's Torey Falkinburg, 4-2, in the semifinals. He then dropped a 12-1 major decision to an opponent from Division II Millersville in the final.
After pinning his first foe, Miller eked out a 10-8 decision against Stevens' Chris Piazza and a 5-2 victory over NYU's John Gleason to reach the final at 174, where he lost by technical fall to Stevens' Branden Bulatao.
Theis had two pins – one of them in 37 seconds – and a 5-0 decision before dropping a tight 6-4 decision to NYU's Jonah Ginsberg in the semifinals. He rebounded to claim third with an 11-3 major against Penn Tech's Aiden Osborne.
Camarena needed only one win, a tech fall, to reach the semifinals at 197. He fell to NYU's Anthony DeRosa before edging teammate
Brad Birch, 4-2, in the third-place bout.
Nick Acque placed fourth at 165 pounds, reaching the semifinals with a pair of tight decisions (4-2 and 8-6).
Andrew Mucciolo (125),
Dave Giulian (184), and
Jake Tulli (285) all placed fifth for TCNJ. Mucciolo racked up three tech falls and a pin, while Giulian posted a pair of pins.
Gavin Rucci had two pins of his own en route to finishing sixth at 149, while
Isaiah Ruiz was sixth at 174 behind a pair of major decisions.
