GRANTHAM, Pa. – A trio of TCNJ wrestlers earned places on Saturday at the Messiah Open.
Colin Menier (4
th) and
Luke Reitter (5
th) each finished in the top-5 in the 133-pound bracket, while
Alejandro Camarena took seventh at 197 for the Lions.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Menier advanced to the semifinals at 133 via a 10-1 major decision against Alvernia's James King and a 16-0 tech fall versus Liberty's Rcey Ortega in the quarters. He dropped a tight 6-4 decision to Wyoming Seminary's Marcus Heck before defeating Reitter, 8-3, to make the third-place bout. Menier was forced to bow out of that due to medical forfeit
- Reitter racked up plenty of bonus points on the day, posting two major decisions and a tech fall in addition to pinning Liberty's Chase Arnestad in the consolation rounds. He secured fifth place with a 13-4 major over Messiah's Mason Casey
- Camarena was a standout in his first major action of the season, recording an 8-4 victory over Alvernia's Jason Chiodi Jr. and pinning Liberty's Zachary Cummings in the second period of their seventh-place bout
OTHER ACTION
- Ethan Kerlin pinned two consecutive opponents in the 149-pound consolation rounds
- Nick Acque (165) and Jack Miller (174) each notched a pin to reach the quarterfinals of their respective brackets
- Jake Tulli notched his first victory as a Lion with a major decision at heavyweight, advancing to the quarterfinals
- Ahmed Hussain produced two wins in the consolations at 141, one of them a tech fall
