Roosa, Kole Lead Women's Lacrosse to Season-Opening Win over Ursinus

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The TCNJ women's lacrosse team rode sophomores Gabriella Roosa and CJ Kole to a 20-8, season-opening win at Ursinus Saturday afternoon. The duo both enjoyed career days, with Roosa nearly outscoring the Bears with seven goals, while Kole became just the 13th different player in program history to reach double digits in points with her four goals and six assists.

The Lions (1-0) wasted no time jumping in front in Saturday's contest, with Ally Tobler controlling the opening draw and taking it down the field to score just 11 seconds into the game. Ursinus (1-3) went goal-for-goal with TCNJ over the ensuing six minutes before Naomi Kahney picked up a ground ball right in front of Ursinus' net and rifled one into the top right corner. The goal was the first of the sophomore's career, and would start a 4-1 run – Marissa Lucca, Tobler and Kole also found the back of the net – to send the Lions into the first break up 7-3.

Saturday's second quarter belonged to Roosa, who scored six of TCNJ's seven goals to nearly match her total from all of last season (8) in one of the program's most dominant quarters in recent memory. The Bears struck first in the frame with a score from Grace Lynch, but there with a response was the sophomore, who would score four unanswered goals in 1:29 of game time to balloon the lead to seven.

Kole, who assisted on two of Roosa's goals during the onslaught, took one for herself just under a minute later off a free position shot before her classmate would strike twice more to cap off an improbable, six-score quarter and make it 14-5 at halftime.

Roosa's seventh and final goal of the game came at the 9:15 mark of the third quarter on a feed from Lucca that the sophomore buried into the bottom right corner. The Bears responded off the stick of Jaime Michaud to stop the running clock, but it was Kole continuing her dominant day with back-to-back goals – one on an impressive solo effort before it was Roosa's turn to tally an assist on the second – to make it a 17-6 game.

The Bears would cut the lead to 10 on two occasions but never get closer, with late, fourth-quarter goals from Lucca and Tobler sealing the dominant, 20-8 victory to kick off the 2025 campaign.
