Baseball Rolls Past Ursinus with 19-4 Victory

EWING, N.J. – A dominant offensive showing powered TCNJ baseball to a 19-4 win over Ursinus College on Wednesday afternoon at George Ackerman Park. The Lions (2-2) erupted for 15 hits and took advantage of nine walks from the Bears (4-3) to secure their second victory of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • TCNJ struck first in the opening inning as Gianni Marano launched a solo homer to left-center, giving the Lions an early 1-0 lead.

  • In the second, Mike LaGravenis extended the lead with a two-run single up the middle, making it 3-0.

  • The Lions kept rolling in the third, adding four more runs, highlighted by a two-run double from LaGravenis to break the game open at 7-0.

  • Ursinus cut into the lead with a run in the fifth and three more in the sixth, but TCNJ responded in a big way in the seventh, plating eight runs behind a three-run homer from Andrew Fernandez and two-run doubles from LaGravenis and Jack O'Donnell.

  • The Lions weren't done, tacking on four more in the eighth, including a two-run blast from Zach Bowman.

  • Dan Merkel (1-0) picked up the win, allowing just one earned run over five innings with six strikeouts. Jack O'Shea, Gianni Marano, Joe Marchese, and John DiCostanzo closed out the final four frames to secure the win.
