EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ men's tennis team shook off an early deficit and rallied past RIT for a thrilling 4-3 victory on a sunny Sunday in Ewing.
The Tigers (3-5) won the doubles point and quickly upped their advantage to 2-0 with a convincing win at No. 2 singles.
That left the Lions (3-2) needing to win at least four of the remaining five singles flights to pull out a victory, and the blue and gold did just that.
The comeback began with
Olufela Fieulleteau's 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, and the tide turned when
Aidan Twamley fought off Gabriel Escobar for a 6-2, 6-7 (4), 10-4 victory at No. 4.
With the match now level at 2,
Harrison Maitland-Carter took a first-set tiebreaker and cruised from there for a 7-6 (2), 6-1 win over Yu Tanimoto on the top court.
RIT pulled even at 3-3 with a victory at No. 3, leaving the Lions' fate in the hands of
Nathan Chan in the fifth flight. Chan came through, edging Alexander Sinclair 7-5, 6-4 in a pair of one-break sets to provide the clinching point.
Maitland-Carter and
Asa Wong had the lone doubles win for TCNJ, a 6-4 decision at number one.
