ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The 20th-ranked TCNJ women's soccer team opened its season with a matchup against Salisbury Friday night, scoring twice in the opening four minutes and never looking back en route to a 4-1 win on Day 1 of the Seahawk Classic.
Â
The Lions (1-0) wasted no time scoring their first two goals of the season, finding the back of the net at the 2:03 and 3:25 marks to jump in front early.
Alyssa Alfano was first to strike in the 2025 campaign, taking a feed from
Taylor Krott off a Sea Gull turnover and firing a shot into the netting to give TCNJ a 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later it was Krott's turn to score, heading the ball home off a corner by Alfano to double the Lions' tally.
Â
A line change halfway through the opening stanza saw TCNJ get fresh legs on the field, resulting in its third goal of the game in the 33rd minute. A pair of shots were followed by a pair of corners for the Lions, the second of which found the head of
Abby Najdzinowicz at the far post to balloon the lead to three before the break.
Â
TCNJ was on the hunt for more goals early in the second, but had shots from Krotty and
Ari Keily turned away by Salisbury's (0-1) Hayle Foreman. The junior made her game-high fifth save of the night in the 66th minute on a long strike from
Jenny Ward, but an own goal at the 67:51 mark gave the Lions an overwhelming 4-0 advantage.
Â
The Sea Gulls stole one back in the 73rd minute to spoil netminder
Ellen Williams' clean sheet – the sophomore made four saves in her first start of the year – but that is as close as Salisbury would get in a 4-1 win for TCNJ.
Â
The Lions are back for Day 2 of the Seahawk Classic Saturday, Aug. 30 when they take on host St. Mary's (MD), with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
