Women's Soccer Settles for Draw Against St. Mary's (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The 20th-ranked TCNJ women's soccer team took on host St. Mary's (Md.) on Day 2 of the Seahawk Classic Saturday afternoon, settling for a 0-0 draw despite outshooting the Seahawks 19-0 in the contest.

The Lions' (1-0-1) first chance came just over six minutes into the contest when Bella Norman rifled a shot from 30 yards out that was collected by Kyleigh Bland. The sophomore netminder came up big once again in the 19th minute when a shot from Alyssa Alfano looked poised to find the top left corner, but a strong hand forced the ball wide to keep the game scoreless.

TCNJ's Reilyn Carr, Emily Weidner and Charlotte Hare all found themselves with scoring chances late in the opening period, but it was Bland holding firm between the pipes as part of a five-save half that sent both sides into the break knotted at zero.

Neither team put a shot on goal through the opening 30 minutes of the second half before Caroline Mascone nearly turned the tides in the 79th minute. Turning beautifully around a Seahawk defender in the attacking third, the senior took a touch and fired a shot that was destined for the corner, only for a diving save by Bland to deny the senior of what would have been her first collegiate goal.

TCNJ's 19th and final opportunity may have been their best, but Maggie Murphy's header with just 15 seconds left on the clock rang off the crossbar, ending the game in a scoreless draw.
