PITMAN, N.J. – A trio of TCNJ student-athletes were recognized Monday for their recent outstanding performances with weekly awards from the NJAC.
Dave Giulian (football) and
Rachael Tetzlaff (field hockey) were honored as Defensive Player of the Week in their respective sports, while
Andrew Scalercio was tabbed Rookie of the Week in men's cross country.
Giulian led the Lions with seven tackles (one for loss) and added a critical interception in opponent territory in the fourth quarter that he returned 14 yards in Saturday's 17-3 victory over Wilkes. Giulian and the Lions held the Colonels without a first down until past the midway point of the third quarter.
Tetzlaff notched a pair of defensive saves in Saturday's 2-1 loss to No. 6 Johns Hopkins. Both of them came in the second half with the Lions down a goal, giving TCNJ a chance to stay in the game, and Tetzlaff also played a key role in helping the Lions shut out Haverford on Wednesday. She now has eight defensive saves for her career and leads the NJAC with her two on the season.
Scalercio was the top Division III rookie at the Herb Lorenz Invitational on Friday, placing 11
th overall in a time of 21:00.50 across the 6-kilometer course.
Giulian and Scalercio are first-time NJAC weekly award recipients, while Tetzlaff collects her first Defensive Player of the Week nod after a Rookie of the Week honor last season.
