Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Conner Gilson

Women's Soccer Bested by 24th-Ranked Johns Hopkins

EWING, N.J. - The TCNJ women's soccer team faced off against No. 24 Johns Hopkins Tuesday night in a rematch of last season's NCAA Tournament Second Round game, falling 4-0 to the Blue Jays.

The Lions (2-3-2) found themselves on the back foot early after allowing three corners in the game's opening four minutes, but TCNJ netminder Ellen Williams did well to keep Hopkins (4-2-1) off the board. The Blue Jays kept the pressure on, eventually breaking through in the 17th minute off the head of Irene Sanchez Burgueno to take the lead, but a pair of saves from Williams kept it a 1-0 game entering halftime.

A second goal just under two minutes into the second half doubled Hopkins' lead, but it was TCNJ nearly responding four minutes later with a chance of their own.

Emily Weidner and Arianna Keily combined beautifully to find Maggie Murphy streaking down the right sideline. The sophomore sent a cross in that found Reilyn Carr, who fired a threatening shot toward goal, but Ella Kruntchev was there to make the diving stop.

Down 3-0 following another Blue Jay goal in the 59th minute, Murphy nearly scored one herself to cut into the deficit, but saw her rocket from 25 yards out denied by the crossbar. Hopkins would score its fourth and final goal at the 76:28 mark off a free kick, with TCNJ unable to create any chances in the final 14 minutes en route to the loss.
