Field Hockey Battles Past Ursinus in Top-20 Showdown

EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ field hockey team continues to find a way.

Subjected to an onslaught for three quarters by No. 11 Ursinus in Saturday's top-20 showdown, the 20th-ranked Lions emerged with a signature victory thanks to Jadyn Huff's go-ahead goal with just over five minutes remaining in an eventual 2-1 triumph.

Despite being outshot, 13-1, at one point late in the third quarter, Brigitte Racey and the TCNJ defense held strong, and Huff's latest heroics put an exclamation point on the turning of the tide. The Lions (6-1) capped their five-game homestand with a record of 4-1.

Ursinus (4-3) recorded the game's first five shots – including a penalty stroke that was denied by the right post  – as well as a litany of corner opportunities, but it was the blue and gold drawing first blood as Codie Sciacca shuffled in Huff's cage-bound effort with just 1:15 to go in the first quarter.

With Racey playing the part of brick wall, the score remained that way until the Bears finally found their equalizer on a rebound goal by Gigi Testa just past the midway point of the third.

The Lions got on the front foot late in the third and carried the attacking impetus over into the final frame, when Huff rocketed a Prisha Dhruve corner injection past Adriana Palladinetti and into the back of the cage with 5:31 remaining.

TCNJ had to survive two more corners for the Bears, and a shot by Rachel Buono that Racey did well to parry away, to secure its first nationally ranked victory of the season.
