GLASSBORO, N.J. – The No. 24 TCNJ field hockey team struck first against rivals No. 10 Rowan, but the Profs scored four unanswered goals to hand the Lions their first NJAC loss of the season on Wednesday evening.
The Lions (9-4, 4-1 NJAC) got the scoring started in the first quarter, when rookie
Avery Gower beat Rowan's (13-3, 5-0 NJAC) Ella Morton unassisted. The tally pushed Gower's season goal total to three, and it was her first since her game-winner against Kean two weeks ago.
The two teams were evenly matched in the evening, but a Rowan equalizer with just two minutes left to go before halftime tied the affair at 1-1. The Profs would pull away in the third quarter, converting three of their four shots within a span of less than four minutes. The Lions put on three shots of their own in the fourth quarter, but were unable to beat the goalkeeper again as the game ended 4-1 in favor of the hosts.
