EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 sweep of Ithaca in its spring opener on Saturday.
The Lions won all three doubles courts by 6-0 shutout and picked up two double-bagels in singles in a rout of one of their regional rivals inside the Rec Center.
Zoey Albert and
Shruti Mannan (No. 1),
Eleni Dakos and
Gabrielle Brideau (No. 2), and
Gabriella Robinson and
Elizabeth Ring (No. 3) all made short work of their doubles opponents to stake TCNJ to a quick lead.
Albert was first off the singles courts with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Madeleine Sutro at No. 2.
Mannan was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Ekaterina Kelly at No. 4 before Brideau clinched the dual on a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Ava Casell-Lapetina at No. 3.
Ring won her first set, 6-0, at No. 6 singles before her opponent retired, and Robinson logged a double-bagel against Kyra Terman at No. 5.
The only competitive match of the day came at No. 1 singles, where Dakos emerged from a tight first set and held off Alys Pop in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
