Women's Tennis Blanks Ithaca in Spring Opener

EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 sweep of Ithaca in its spring opener on Saturday.

The Lions won all three doubles courts by 6-0 shutout and picked up two double-bagels in singles in a rout of one of their regional rivals inside the Rec Center.

Zoey Albert and Shruti Mannan (No. 1), Eleni Dakos and Gabrielle Brideau (No. 2), and Gabriella Robinson and Elizabeth Ring (No. 3) all made short work of their doubles opponents to stake TCNJ to a quick lead.

Albert was first off the singles courts with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat of Madeleine Sutro at No. 2.

Mannan was a 6-2, 6-1 winner over Ekaterina Kelly at No. 4 before Brideau clinched the dual on a 6-1, 6-1 decision against Ava Casell-Lapetina at No. 3.

Ring won her first set, 6-0, at No. 6 singles before her opponent retired, and Robinson logged a double-bagel against Kyra Terman at No. 5.

The only competitive match of the day came at No. 1 singles, where Dakos emerged from a tight first set and held off Alys Pop in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.

NOTES

  • Albert continued her chase to 100 career wins, with two on Saturday pushing her tally to 89
  • Mannan is a remarkable 30-2 in doubles in her career
