LEBANON, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team picked up an impressive 5-2 victory over Union on Saturday night at Courtside Racquet Club.
Zoey Albert,
Eleni Dakos, and
Elizabeth Ring were double winners for the Lions (4-0), who remained unbeaten in the early part of the spring season and avenged a 5-2 setback at the hands of the Garnet Chargers a year ago.
Ring and Robinson kicked things off in style with a 6-0 bagel at No. 3 doubles. Dakos and
Gabrielle Brideau clinched the doubles point by edging Kennedy Alexis and Chara Meidani, 6-4, at No. 2 with a break to love. Albert and Mannan, meanwhile, sealed the sweep with a 6-3 defeat of Skylar Sermon and Claire Langille on the top court.
Albert cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Sermon on the No. 2 singles court.
Dakos rallied from a 2-0 deficit to Meidani in the second set, winning a pair of deuce points and eventually breaking her Garnet Charger foe back to finish off a 6-2, 6-4 triumph at No. 1.
Mannan pulled off a huge comeback in the first set against Langille at No. 4, falling into a 4-0 hole before reeling off seven of the next eight games for a 7-5 decision en route to a 7-5, 6-2 final.
Union won at No. 5 singles, but Ring put a bow on the night by outlasting Sydney Alphabet 6-2, 6-7 (8), 10-2 in a marathon match at No. 6.
