LEBANON, N.J. – For the second straight weekend, the TCNJ women's tennis team showed how far it has come in the last year.
TCNJ remained unbeaten for the spring with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Franklin & Marshall on Saturday night at Courtside Racquet Club.
Gabriella Robinson posted the clinching point at No. 5 singles for the Lions (5-0), who defeated a team they lost to a season ago for the second time in as many matches following last Saturday's 5-2 reversal against Union.
The Lions lost at No. 3 doubles but rallied to claim the doubles point with a pair of close wins on the top two courts.
Eleni Dakos and
Gabrielle Brideau forced a decider with a 6-3 victory over Sahara Ahmad and Rebecca Bellick at No. 2, setting the stage for
Zoey Albert and
Shruti Mannan to pull out a 7-5 nail-biter with Sophia Rhazali and Natalie Untermeyer in the top flight.
Dakos picked up a 7-6 (3), 6-1 victory over Untermeyer at No. 1 singles, and Albert added to the Lions' lead with a 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 defeat of Ahmad in a match that went to a third-set super breaker at No. 2.
The Diplomats got on the board with a win at No. 3, and picked up straight-set victories at No. 4 and No. 6 as well to even the match at 3-3.
The deadlock was short-lived, however, as Robinson handled Savedra 6-2, 6-3 to clinch the match just a few minutes later.
