PITMABN, N.J. – A pair of TCNJ senior superstars were recognized with Player of the Week honors by the NJAC on Monday afternoon.
Marissa Lucca was tabbed Offensive Player of the Week for her prolific performance in the lacrosse team's season-opening victory over Catholic, while
Matthew Solomon collected an overall Player of the Week nod for his near triple-double in the men's basketball team's upset of No. 1-ranked Montclair State.
Lucca went off for six goals and three assists in Saturday's 12-8 season-opening victory over Catholic, becoming the 23rd player in program history to eclipse 200 career points in the process. The senior had a hat-trick and two assists in the first 12 minutes alone as TCNJ raced out to a 6-1 lead, eventually recording her milestone point on a goal early in the third quarter. Lucca scored her six goals on just eight shots and also added four ground balls.
Solomon was a driving force in the Lions' upset of the undefeated Red Hawks on Wednesday, falling just shy of a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. The senior, who sat for just 9 seconds on the night, was 6-of-10 from the floor and 6-for-7 at the free-throw line, also adding a pair of steals as TCNJ denied the Red Hawks and undefeated regular season.
Lucca is a 2-time NJAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Solomon earned his second Player of the Week award of the season and fourth of his career.
