MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The TCNJ baseball team bounced back in a big way in the second game of their spring break trip, going wire-to-wire in a 15-3 rout of Ithaca College.
Jack Reardon's first collegiate win, as well as
Jake Carter and
Braden Dromboski's first career big flies highlighted the game.
The Lions (6-8) scored early and often in the contest, giving plenty of run support to starter Reardon who threw six shutout innings along with six strikeouts to limit the Bombers' (5-4) bats to two hits. As a result, Reardon picked up the first win of his collegiate career on the mound.
Carter led the day offensively in a big way, going 3-for-5 and finishing a triple short of a cycle. TCNJ scored the first seven runs of the game, starting with three in the first inning.
Jack O'Donnell and
Michael Contiliano drew back-to-back walks to begin the afternoon, and
Tyler Provost's double cleared the bases to put the Lions up 2-0. Carter then stepped up with a single through the middle to score Provost and put TCNJ up 3-0 after the first.
The Lions followed that up by scoring two runs in each of the next two innings. In the second,
Nate McLaughlin drew a walk after an unfortunate injury to Ithaca starter Ethan Murley. McLaughlin then stole second after which O'Donnell reached on a walk again. Contiliano then loaded the bases with a single, and TCNJ walked in a run after that via
Joe Tammaro. Provost's ensuing sacrifice fly drove in another run to make it 5-0 after the second frame.
TCNJ loaded the bases again in the third thanks to a
Brian Lovaglio walk, a
Braden Dromboski single, and a perfectly executed bunt single from
Jesse Beer. O'Donnell later walked for the third time in the game to score another run, and Contiliano added another with a sacrifice fly.
The Bombers were able to hold the Lions scoreless for the next three innings, but TCNJ's bats would do more damage in the seventh and eighth. In the seventh, Carter and Lovaglio both logged RBI doubles and Beer had an RBI single to add three more runs. In the eighth, Carter smashed a three-run homer down the left-field line for the first home run of his career. A couple batters later, Dromboski hit his first career home run as well — a two-run shot over the fence in left-center.
