PITMAN, N.J. – Four TCNJ student-athletes garnered weekly recognition by the NJAC, as announced by the conference this afternoon. Women's tennis'
Gabriella Robinson and lacrosse's
Ashly Herlihy were named the Player and Defensive Player of the week respectively, while
Lucia Garcia-Beltran and
Nate Adams rounded out the Lion's selections with a sweep of the NJAC's Track Athlete of the Week honors.
Robinson won all six of her matches in a 3-0 week for the unbeaten Lions en route to her maiden Player of the Week nod. She and partner
Elizabeth Ring conceded a total of three games across No. 3 doubles wins against Washington College, Kean, and Skidmore; the latter victory, combined with her dominating performance at No. 5 singles, played a key role in TCNJ's 4-3 upset of the 40th-ranked Thoroughbreds. Robinson pulled out a 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) thriller in singles against Washington College.
Herlihy – also a first-time Defensive Player of the Week recipient – racked up 13 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers in a 1-1 week for the Lions, also scoring a pair of goals and handing out an assist. She had four ground balls and three caused turnovers at Muhlenberg before registering a career-high nine grounders and seven more caused turnovers in Saturday's win at Lebanon Valley, in which she also netted two goals of her own. The nine ground balls on Saturday are tied for the second-highest single-game total in program history, and the seven caused turnovers are tied for fourth-highest in a single contest.
Garcia Beltran came close to setting a pair of new program records over the weekend, as she ran the second-fastest times in school history in both the 100m (11.75) and 200m (24.55). Her time in the 100 is second-fastest in the country, while her time in the 200 is currently third-fastest.
Adams rounded out TCNJ's quartet of honorees with his first Track Athlete of the Week selection, setting a new program record in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.55. The junior's time is second-fastest in the nation currently, only behind the defending national champion.
