MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The TCNJ baseball team went on the road for a doubleheader against Montclair State, dropping both games of the twin bill against a squad receiving votes in the national poll.
Game 1: Montclair 13, TCNJ 5
The Red Hawks ran away with things in the first leg of the doubleheader, scoring the contest's first 10 runs. The Lions got their first in the top of the fifth, thanks to a
Brian Lovaglio RBI single which scored
Jack O'Donnell who walked earlier in the inning. Lovaglio provided a nice bright spot for TCNJ, as he went 3-for-4 and racked up 4 total RBIs.
Nate McLaughlin also extended his hitting streak to seven games with a leadoff single.
McLaughlin also batted in a run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth, logging his fifth RBI in the last seven games. The Lions scored twice in that frame and in the eighth, but Montclair State rode its early advantage to a 13-5 victory.
Game 2: Montclair 13, TCNJ 1
The second game of the doubleheader went much like the first, as Montclair State logged 13 runs against the Lions. TCNJ's lone run came in the fourth inning, thanks to
Tyler Provost's RBI double which scored O'Donnell.
The Lions were held to just three hits in the contest, which came from Provost, O'Donnell, and Lovaglio. As a result, McLaughlin's seven-game hitting streak came to an end this weekend. Montclair State scored in each inning except for the seventh, where TCNJ's
Tyler Perry tossed an efficient 1-2-3 inning with 11 pitches.
