CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The No. 47 TCNJ men's tennis team turned its top-50 tilt at No. 49 Washington College into a runaway victory on Saturday, sweeping aside the Shoremen in a 7-0 shutout.
Harrison Maitland-Carter and
Asa Wong doubled up Petter Storberg and Demir Isiker, 6-3, at number one doubles, and
Alberto Thomas and
Nathan Chan did the same to Maxi Synnestvedt and Oskar Wroblewski at number two to lock up the doubles point.
Sidd Arudi and
Faris Shehata outlasted Tichi Chialva and Kohl Perkins, 7-6 (2), in a tiebreaker at number three to complete the sweep.
Singles was a straightforward affair. Maitland-Carter cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 rout of Synnestvedt at number two, and
Brett Schuster reversed that scoreline over Wroblewski at number six.
Thomas' 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Chialva served as the match-clinching point for the Lions (11-4).
Shehata handled Storberg 6-2, 6-2 at number four, and
Aidan Twamley prevailed in a couple of one-break sets, 6-4, 6-4, against Perkins at number five.
Chan managed to win a battle of wills with Isiker at number three, holding on for a 6-3, 6-7 (3), 10-7 triumph to sew up the sweep.
