Women's Tennis Wins Twice on Saturday

EWING, N.J. – The TCNJ women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon, one against an NJAC foe and the other against a team that will join the conference next season.

The Lions kicked off the day with a 7-0 sweep of New Paltz, which is set to join the NJAC in all sports beginning in the fall. TCNJ followed that up with a quick sweep of William Paterson to run its unbeaten mark to 13-0 on the season.

TCNJ 7, New Paltz 0
Zoey Albert and Shruti Mannan were the most convincing winners in a day of tightly contested doubles play, pulling away from Alex Krol and Justine Stenejko for a 6-2 decision on the top court.

Needing one of the two remaining flights to clinch the doubles point, Elizabeth Ring and Gabriella Robinson obliged by edging Angelica Gabriel and Nina Genzone, 6-4, on the number three court.

Eleni Dakos and Gabrielle Brideau finished off the doubles sweep by holding off Patrycja Filonik and Olivia Kunz in a 6-4 nail-biter at number two.

Despite a couple of tight singles matches, the Lions wrapped things up quickly. Dakos blanked Stanejko 6-0, 6-0 at number one, with Mannan (No. 4) and Robinson (No. 5) posting 6-1, 6-0 victories and Ring logging a 6-2, 6-2 win at number six.

Albert was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Sladicka at number two before New Paltz (8-6) broke up TCNJ's bid for a sweep with a third-set super breaker victory at number three.

TCNJ 7, William Paterson 0
The Pioneers forfeited number three doubles as well as number five and number six singles, leaving TCNJ little to do to clinch another NJAC sweep.

The Lions dropped a total of one game on the six contested courts. The top two doubles tandems each won 6-0, while Dakos, Albert, Robinson, and Ring were 6-0, 6-0 double-bagel winners on the top four singles courts.
