LA PLUME, Pa. – The TCNJ baseball kept it close against one of the better baseball teams in DIII on Tuesday, but Keystone College pulled away in the later innings to hand the Lions a loss.
The Lions (15-20) started the game positively, walking in two runs in the top of the first to open the scoring. The Giants (23-8) got one back in the bottom of the frame, but TCNJ doubled their lead with a run in the top of the second after doubles by
Jack O'Donnell and
Tyler Provost. In the bottom of the third, however, Keystone scored three times to take a 4-3 lead.
The home team grew their lead to two runs in the fifth, but the Lions cut it back to a one-run game in the sixth off the bat of
Michael Contiliano, who picked up his 50
th hit of the season in the game. Keystone responded in that frame with a run of their own, but was unable to pull away. After TCNJ failed to score in the next inning,
Bodhi Lettieri tossed a scoreless seventh to keep it a two-run affair. However, the Giants found their groove offensively just in time, putting up a game-sealing seven-spot in the bottom of the eighth.
