LOUISVILLE, Ky. - TCNJ Softball's
Maya Knasiak continues to pile up postseason accolades following a stellar junior campaign on both sides of the field, pairing her NJAC Pitcher of the Year selection with a spot on the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's (NFCA) All-Region IV First Team.
Â
Knasiak put together a historic year in the circle, leading a loaded Region IV in ERA (0.86), WHIP (0.60), shutouts (10), hits allowed per seven innings (3.03) and strikeouts per seven innings (9.30), all of which also ranked in the top 10 in all of Division III. The junior would engineer one of the most dominant stretches in program history during the opening month and a half of the season, pitching 60 consecutive scoreless innings from March 7 to April 7, a stint that included six straight complete-game shutouts.
Â
By the end of the regular season, Knasiak compiled a 14-4 record, tossing 13 complete games while fanning 150 batters – second-most in the region – in just 113.1 innings of work. The junior would go on to break the single-season strikeout (174) record during the postseason, also becoming the fastest player in program history to eclipse 400 career strikeouts.
Â
Added onto Knasiak's mastery in the circle was her prowess at the plate, where she finished the regular season slashing .403/.452/.727 – the latter of which ranked eighth in Region IV – with career-best marks in hits (31), RBIs (25), runs (11), doubles (8) and home runs (5). The junior's five homers were tied for fifth in the region, with her 25 RBIs at the dish surpassing the 14 earned runs she conceded in the circle to round out one of the best two-way players in the country.
