BALTIMORE, Md. – The No. 22 TCNJ field hockey team saw its unbeaten start to the season come to an end with a 4-1 setback at No. 4 Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
The Blue Jays (3-1), national runner-up in four of the last five seasons, converted three penalty strokes in the first half to separate from the visitors.
Brigitte Racey turned in another spectacular performance in the cage, conceding just one goal from the run of play and racking up 14 saves. The graduate netminder had a career-high 17 saves at Haverford on Wednesday, giving her two of the seven highest single-game save tallies in program history in a span of three days.
Rachael Tetzlaff scored the lone goal for the Lions (3-1) and stopped one on the other end with a defensive save.
Hopkins started its stroke-fest midway through the first quarter, when Sarah Chilton cashed in the first of her three goals.
Tetzlaff's defensive save and two saves from Racey kept the Blue Jays at bay for a bit, but were awarded another stroke at almost the exact same time as the first and Chilton doubled the spread with another successful shot.
Chilton capped off her first-half hat-trick with 1:08 left in the second quarter, and Hopkins expanded its lead to 4-0 just 96 seconds into the third.
TCNJ got on the board with 3:13 to go in the third as Tetzlaff put in a shot from the left side of the circle off a corner insert from
Prisha Dhruve.
