In his first season with the Lions, Maurice Carter led the team with his four interceptions and would finish the season ranked 46th national in Division III. He averaged 0.5 interceptions per game and was ranked ninth in the NJAC in passed defended with four breakups and four interceptions.
Mid-season he earned NJAC Defensive Rookie of the Week honors after helping the Lion defense hold Southern Virginia to just 58 total yards of offense in TCNJ's 34-6 win. From his defensive back position, he garnered two interceptions, each of which thwarted Southern Virginia
scoring drives deep in Lion territory. He was also a factor in run-support, helping TCNJ hold the Knights to -10 yards rushing in the contest.
A tenacious player with great speed, he made the most of his time on the field last season and the Lions will be looking for an increased role for Carter in the backfield and possibly on special teams. He also time on special teams in 2003 and had a pair of kick returns for 42 yards, including a long of 29 yards.
