A transfer from the University of Rhode Island where he earned a letter in 2003, Nick Steffner earned a spot in the Lions’ lineup in 2005 and appeared in seven games with five tackles. He saw action as well on the Lions’ special teams unit. By year’s end, he had also earned a spot on the NJAC’s 2005-2006 Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll after also earning a spot on TCNJ’s Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.

Steffner played in all 10 games last year with 32 tackles while adding a pass break up and a forced fumble for the 2006 team. He returns this fall as another of the Lions’ graduate students and will most certainly bring a maturity to a young group of linebackers. His understanding of the defense and his leadership skills will be important factors in the ability of the defense to stop the opposition this fall after helping the 2006 team rank nationally in several categories.

A graduate of Bridgewater High School, Steffner earned three letters in football and served as team captain during his junior and seniors seasons. A first team all-county pick, he also earned all-conference and Third Team All-Group 4 honors.

He is a health and exercise science teaching major at TCNJ and was once again cited for his academic prowess after one again earning acclaim as a TCNJ Scholar-Athlete and a 2006-2007 NJAC Honorable Mention Scholar-Athlete Team honoree.
