Linebacker Senior Tri-Captain
5-10 200 Somerville, NJ/Somerville
Elected as team tri-captain this season, Ray Bateman returns to the lineup after a career-best effort in 2003 that saw the linebacker finish 52 stops, ranking third on the team in total tackles. Tapped for the 2003 NJAC All-Star First Team on defense at linebacker as a junior, TCNJ is confident about his return this fall in continuing where he left off in 2003.
A three-year letterwinner with the Lions, Bateman has amassed 91 career tackles in 25 games played on defense and has emerged as an everyday starter for the Lions after his sophomore season. As a rookie in 2001, Bateman played in seven games, recording just seven tackles. He followed up that season with an increased role on the squad and proceeded to hammer out 32 hits in nine outings for the team, while excelling on special teams.
A three-sport athlete at Somerville High School, Bateman distinguished himself in football, basketball and baseball, earning recognition in all three sports. He is the son of the late Raymond Bateman, a former member of the 1980 and 1984 U.S. Olympic Luge Team. He is an information systems major at TCNJ.
