As a rookie, Scott Paterson was named the recipient of the Coach Hank Johns Award as the player who worked hard and improved the most to make himself and the team better over the course of the season. He played in nine games as a rookie that season and contributed 23 tackles with five sacks.

He followed up his rookie season starting all ten games for the Lions and handed out 26 stops, which was tenth best that season. He added five tackles for a loss and helped the Lions record six wins in 2001. By year’s end he had also been named to the NSCA All-America Team for his accomplishments in the weight room and the classroom.

Paterson is coming off a junior season where he had only 14 tackles, but contributed four hits for a loss with three sacks while playing at linebacker. He will be looked to this season to handle a new position as he makes the move to the defensive line.

Active in TCNJ’s Army ROTC program, Paterson has been a leader on and off the field for TCNJ over his career. He recently served as a platoon leader in the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii. A Dean’s List student with a 3.5 GPA, Paterson is an exercise science major and is also a three-time TCNJ Scholar-Athlete honoree. Scholastically, he was a two-sport athlete at Scotch Plains-Fanwood, serving as team captain for football, where he also earned MVP honors. He plans on pursuing a career in the Army upon graduation with aspirations of becoming an officer.

Personal:  Scott was born on October 19, 1980.  He is the son of Tom and Nancy Paterson and is majoring in Exercise Science.
