Another of the Lions’ former letterwinners to return to the sidelines this fall, look for Anthony Sorrentino to help the Lions this season after a stellar career as a Lion wide receiver. A four-year letterwinner and starter, Sorrentino was a 2004 NJAC All-Conference Honorable Mention pick at wide receiver as a senior. He helped the 2004 team go 7-2 and finished as the NJAC runner-up for the third straight year after going 5-1 in the league. TCNJ’s defense was impressive, pitching three wins by virtue of shutouts and holding their opponents scoreless in 22 of 36 quarters of football in 2004. He capped his career having added 533 receiving yards in three years on the offense.
He is a former three-sport athlete at Mountain Lakes High School, where he earned varsity letters in football, basketball and lacrosse. A team captain in football, he was selected as all-area, all-county and all-conference first team honoree. Twice during his time with the football squad, the team went 8-3 and was a state semifinalist. By the end of his scholastic athletic career, he was voted the athlete of the year after also leading the men’s lacrosse team to a 19-1 record and the Gibbs Division Championship.
He graduated from TCNJ with a degree in exercise science. While an undergraduate, he was also active as a member of the men’s lacrosse club. During his time at TCNJ , he also worked as an intern with the Houston Texans. In addition, he also served as the head basketball coach for Hopewell Valley’s eighth grade team as well as the assistant head lacrosse coach at nearby Allentown High School. He has spent the past two years both teaching and coaching at West Essex High School and returns to TCNJ where he is also working on a graduate degree in health and exercise science. He is the son of Anthony Sorrentino, a 1968 graduate of Trenton State. During his collegiate career, Sorrentino, Sr. was a two-way starter for the Lions and the team co-captain of the 1968 team which went 5-2-1.
