Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey men’s soccer team had six players named to the 2004 New Jersey Athletic Conference All-Star Team on Friday, including senior back Jim Cooney (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood), who earned a spot on the second team on defense. On the 2004 season, TCNJ went 7-9-2 on the year, including a 1-5-2 NJAC record.
Earning a spot on the Honorable Mention squad from TCNJ were junior midfielder Matt Connor (Wayne, NJ/DePaul Catholic), senior midfielder Adam Cooper (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury), freshman midfielder Joe McGinley (Cranford, NJ/Cranford), junior back Jeff Lageman (Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley) and rookie goalie, Michael Cladek (Rahway, NJ/St. Joseph’s).
Cooney played in all 18 games for the Lions, adding one goal and one assist from his backfield position with the Lions. Connor was another 18 game performer with five points on two goals and an assist, while Cooper played in 18 contests and added three assists this fall. Rookie McGinley played in all 18 games as well with one goal and one assist, while Lageman added one goal in 18 matches played. Freshman keeper, Cladek played in 10 games for the Lions with a 1.21 goals against average and a team-high 54 saves. He finished the season with a .831 saves percentage.
