Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey women’s soccer team racked up its sixth straight win as the Lions won a rematch of last year’s conference title game blanking visiting Kean University by the score of 5-0 on Saturday.
The win keeps the Lions unbeaten on the season at 8-0-2 and 4-0-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Cougars slipped to 9-3 overall and 3-3 in the conference.
During TCNJ’s winning streak, they have excelled on both ends of the field outscoring the opposition by the score of 26-1 with five shutouts.
The Lions got early scoring 13:34 into the game as Dana DiBruno (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) redirected a cross from Allie Schilling (Somerdale, NJ/Triton)Â putting the hosts in front. The goal was DiBruno's team leading sixth of the season.
Midway through the half, TCNJ doubled it advantage as DiBruno touched the ball back to Schilling, who cashed in on the nice feed and tallied her second goal of the season.
The Lions then added three more goals in the first 20 minutes of the second half as Christine Mullin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), Jamie Kunkel (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and Kristen Cubicciotti (North Haledon, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) each found the back of the net and rounded out the scoring.
TCNJ goalie Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added to her growing streak of not allowing a goal as the freshman posted two saves. Clarke has not allowed a goal in the last 859:16.
In addition to Clarke, TCNJ’s defense held the nation’s leading scorer Heather Anzivino (Bedford, NJ/Midddletown North) off of the scoreboard and limited her to only one shot on goal.
In goal for the Cougars, Samantha Groh (Mason, MI/Mason) finished with six saves, while Nicole Groszew (Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) made two.
The Lions will return to NJAC play on Wednesday, October 11 hosting William Paterson University at 7:30 p.m., while Kean remain on the road traveling to Montclair State to take on the Red Hawks at 7 p.m.
