TCNJ's women's swimmers drop tough match to Division II foe, SCSU

New Haven, CT…The College of New Jersey’s men’s and women’s swimming teams competed on Sunday at Division II Southern Connecticut State University. TCNJ’s men dropped a 125-114 decision for their first setback on the year and are now 2-1. The Lion women fell 127.5-109.5 and are now 1-3 this fall.

             Junior Ava Kiss (North Brunswick, NJ/Stuart Country Day) took home two first place finishes and was part of a first place 400 freestyle relay team for the Lions. She won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.04 and the 100 freestyle in 54.56. Joining her on the 400 freestyle relay were sophomore Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township), senior Julie Nami (Yardville, NJ/Steinert), and rookie Stephanie Seto (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert).

Seto took home second in the 500 freestyle in 5:24.95 and second in the 1000 freestyle in 11:13.10, while Nami finished in third in the 50 freestyle in 26.40.

Sophomore Emily Reichard (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) captured first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.40 and helped the Lions sweep first through fourth in the race. Taking second behind Reichard was senior Mary Anne Wilson (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell), while freshman Julianne Clapp (Allentown, PA/Parkland) took third in 2:45.58 and senior Tara Plusch (Plainview, NY/Plainview Old Bethpage JFK) picked up fourth in 2:48.83. Reichard also posted a fourth place finish in the 200 individual medley race in 2:20.60 and was also part of the Lions’ second place 400 medley relay team (4:15.23). Joining Reichard on the relay were junior Christine Marino (Scotch Plains, NJ/Mount Saint Mary’s Academy), freshman Christina Falcone (Newtown, PA/Notre Dame), and sophomore Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township).

Collyer picked up fourth for the Lions in the 100 freestyle in 57.57, while Marino placed second in the 200 backstroke in 2:18.55.

Senior diver Lee Swanson (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) won the three meter diving her score of 242.70 and took second in the one meter event with her mark of 235.90.

TCNJ’s swimmers and divers return to the pool on Saturday, November 18 when they host Division II Bloomsburg University at in TCNJ’s Aquatic Center.
