Lions hand Bloomsburg loss in men's swimming

Ewing, NJThe College of New Jersey’s men’s and women’s swimming teams competed on Saturday hosting Division II Bloomsburg University. TCNJ’s men’s team picked up a 142-103 win, while the women’s race went to the Huskies, 137-125. TCNJ’s men’s team improves to 3-1 overall, while the Lion women are now 1-4.

TCNJ’s divers posted qualifying performances in the one and three meter events. Senior diver Lee Swanson (Princeton Junction, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) won the three meter diving her score of 260.70 and won the one meter event with her mark of 252.68, both NCAA qualifying scores. TCNJ’s sophomore diver Greg Lloyd (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) won the three meter diving event with a score of 279.30 and picked up first in the one meter with his mark of 270.68, also NCAA qualifying marks.

Men’s Highlights

TCNJ’s men opened the meet with a victory in the 200 medley relay as they posted a time of 1:37.95 behind the efforts of junior Kevin Oliver (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North), sophomore Ted Yoa (Ocean City, NJ/St. Augustine), junior Josh Forsman (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial), and senior captain Kyle King (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick).

Oliver won the 50 backstroke in 25.31, while Yoa won the 50 breaststroke in 28.02 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.40. King captured a first in the 50 freestyle in 21.90, while also winning the 100 freestyle in 49.68. Forsman won the 50 butterfly in 23.62 to lead the Lions.

Sophomore Mike Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) won the 1650 freestyle in 16:31.84 and the 500 freestyle in 4:49.52.

TCNJ also won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:29.17 behind the efforts of Forsman, King, sophomore Thomas Nawrot (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick), and Oliver.

Junior captain Liam Gallagher (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) won the 400 individual medley in 4:21.16, while also winning the 100 backstroke in 55.04.
