Lions fall to F & M despite strong individual showings

Ava Kiss had a strong effort on Sunday against the Diplomats.

Lancaster, PA…The College of New Jersey’s women’s swimming team competed on Sunday at Franklin & Marshall College. The Lion women fell to the Diplomats, 115-90. TCNJ’s women’s team is now 1-1 on the young season. The F & M women improve to 2-1.

Junior Ava Kiss (North Brunswick, NJ/Stuart Country Day) took home first place for the Lions in the 200 butterfly and just missed an NCAA provisional qualifying time with her performance in the race of 1:57.49. She also finished in second in the 200 butterfly in 2:10.93 and was part of TCNJ’s second place 400 freestyle relay team that had a time of 3:47.85. Joining her on that relay were freshman individual medley (2:16.48) and the 100 freestyle (55.44), and was also part of the Lions’ first place 400 medley relay team that won the first event of the meet in 4:13.78. Joining Kiss on the relay were freshman Ashley Robb (Blackwood, NJ/Gloucester Catholic), senior Kerry Genese (Hamilton, NJ/Lawrence), and sophomore Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township).

Sophomore Emily Reichard (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) captured first in the 200 breaststroke in 2:32.70, while also taking fifth in the 200 backstroke in 2:20.40.

Collyer finished in second in the 50 freestyle in 26.10, while also taking second in the 100 freestyle in 57.35, just ahead of Robb who took third in the event in 58.25.

Junior Christine Marino (Scotch Plains, NJ/Mount Saint Mary’s Academy), took third in the 200 backstroke in 2:18.80 for the Lions.

TCNJ opened the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay in 4:19.34 as Marino, Reichard, junior Stefanie Rashti (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West), and senior Catherine Benigno (Martinsville, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) paced the Lions with their efforts.

Another strong performance was turned in by rookie Stephanie Seto (Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) as she took second in the 1,000 freestyle in 11:20.99, third in the 200 individual medley in 2:22.39, and third in the 500 freestyle in 5:34.79.

            Rashti also finished in second in the 200 individual medley in 2:21.50.
