Salem, MA--The Kean University women's basketball team staged a furious second half comeback en route to a 60-56 victory over The College of New Jersey to win the championship game of the Salem State Christmas Tournament at James Twohig Gymnasium.
The Cougars (10-1) erased a 10 point second half deficit behind a stellar performance by tournament MVP Ebony Allen. Allen topped all Kean scorers with 14 while also grabbing six rebounds. Chari' Cooper added 11 points and a team-high 10 rebounds for the winners who also received 10 points
and two blocks from Cardiss Jackman. Cooper and teammate Chi Clark (8 rebounds, 5 points, a block and a steal in 16 minutes of action) were named to the all-tournament team along with Val Beckwith from Bates College.
The Lions (5-5) were paced by sophomore center Hillary Klimowicz' (Scotch Plains, NJ/Scotch Plains-Fanwood) game-highs of 15 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Alexandra Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ/Acedmey of the Holy Angels) contributed 10 points and five caroms for TCNJ. Klimowicz and teammate senior forward Breanna Depken (Oradell, NJ/River Dell) also earned all-tournament team honors.
