Scranton, PA… The University of Scranton Royals collected a 71-49 win over The College of New Jersey in men’s basketball on Monday night. Scranton improves to 3-2 overall, while TCNJ drops to 4-3.
Scranton led 36-22 at the half and held the Lions to 31.0% shooting from the floor (9-29) and only 9.1% from three-point range (1-11) in the first session of play. Scranton hit 51.7% of their shots in the first half after hitting 15-of-29 shots from the floor to help their cause.
Scranton’s sophomore forward Paul Biagioli (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) netted a career-high 18 points for the Royals in his first career start. Bicknell hit 6-of-7 shots in the first half and finished the night with an 8-11 effort from the floor with a pair of three pointers. Junior forward Tom Bicknell (Melbourne, Australia) added 15 points on the night, including 12 in the first half, while sophomore forward Paul Hawk (Audubon, PA/Metachton) added a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds.
TCNJ’s junior forward Jeff Warner (Jackson, NJ/Jackson Memorial) led the Lions with 18 points and was the only TCNJ player on double digits on the night. Warner hit 7-12 of his shots from the floor, including a 4-9 effort from three-point range.
Junior forward Mark Aziz (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris Central) picked up seven points and was the Lions’ high rebounder with five boards as the Lions found themselves on the back end of a 38-23 rebounding edge.
The Lions return to action on December 6 hosting the Cougars of Kean University in Packer Hall at 8:00 in an NJAC match-up.
