Ewing, NJ…The College of New Jersey’s women’s tennis team recorded an 8-1 home win over Richard Stockton College on Wednesday. With the win, TCNJ improves to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference, while the Ospreys fall to 5-1 overall and watch their win streak halted at seven matches. The Lions have now won 113 consecutive league matches dating back to the fall of 1982 when women’s tennis was introduced as a NJAC sport.

TCNJ’s rookie Jackie Shtemberg (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) picked up two wins as she topped RSC’s senior Kristin Tukel (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown) at first singles and then teams at first doubles to record an 8-3 win. Playing at first doubles with Shtemberg was junior Christina Contrafatto (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), who was a winner at fourth singles. Shtemberg is already a two-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection on the fall. Shtemberg and Contrafatto defeated RSC’s sophomore Christa Phillips (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth) and Tukel. Phillips is the NJAC’s Player of the Week this week and fell at No. 3 singles to TCNJ’s rookie Stephanie Haar (Morganville, NJ/Marlboro), 6-1, 6-3.
