Newark, NJ… The College of New Jersey women’s soccer team remained unbeaten in conference play as the fourth-ranked Lions netted a season-high eight goals in an 8-1 victory at Rutgers University-Newark on Saturday.
TCNJ is now 6-0-2 on the season and 3-0-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Scarlet Raiders slipped to 4-6 on the season and 1-4 in the conference.
The Lions scored early against Rutgers-Newark as Jillian Casey (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) scored 3:45 into the game on an assist from Dana DiBruno (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East).
DiBruno then netted her fifth goal of the season 10:20 into the game with an assist from Kristen Cubicciotti (North Haledon, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy).
The Lions added one more goal before the end of the half as freshman Kristina Shemming (Cranbury, NJ/West Windsor South) made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal with 10:05 left before the intermission.
In the second half, TCNJ scored three times in the first 18 minuteas Christine Mullin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East), Lori Adriance (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) and Briann McDonough (North Arlington, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) each found the back of the net putting the Lions in front 6-0.
Rutgers-Newark then got on the board later in the half bring an end to the team’s long streak without allowing a goal. The Scarlet Raiders scored at 23:27 into the second half ending TCNJ’s streak at 700:09 minutes without allowing a goal. That streak dated back to the first half of the first game of the season.
The Lions closed out the scoring with Nicole Papola (Massapequa, NY/Massapequa) and Christine Cavallo (Cedar Grove, NJ/West Essex Regional) capping the victory.
Freshman goalie Jessica Clarke (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) played the first 67 minutes of the game without facing a shot and ran her personal streak without allowing a goal to 689:12. Kristina Kuda (Thorofare, NJ/West Depford) also saw time in goal for TCNJ and finished with a pair of saves.
The Lions will host 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Monday, October 2 in a non-conference game at Lions’ Stadium.
