Pomona, NJ…The College of New Jersey men’s basketball team dropped out of a first-place tie in the New Jersey Athletic South Division as host Richard Stockton College used a second-half run to slip past the Lions 66-57 on Wednesday.
The loss put the Lions at 8-7 overall and an even 2-2 in the NJAC South, while the Ospreys improved to 10-4 and 2-2 in the conference.
TCNJ trailed by only a point after the opening 20 minutes of play before the Ospreys outscored the Lions 37-29 in the second half to secure the win.
Senior guard Corey Gilmore (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) scored a career-high 18 points for the Lions shooting 7-for-12 from the floor.
Freshman Jay Frank (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) contributed nine points for TCNJ with junior Mark Aziz (Hackettstown, NJ/West Morris) adding eight.
Richard Stockton’s Jon Greene (Wildwood/Wildwood) led all scorers with 23 points and also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
The Lions return home this Saturday hosting conference rival Rowan University at Packer Hall in a 3 p.m. start.
