Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey men's soccer team hosted the Pioneers of William Paterson University on Wednesday afternoon in TCNJ's Soccer Complex in a conference match-up. TCNJ, which is ranked in a tie for 14th in Division III, is now 9-2-3 overall with a 4-0-2 record in the NJAC, while WPU falls to 7-7 overall and 1-5 in the NJAC. TCNJ's sophomore forward Kevin Luber (Delran, NJ/Delran) scored added two goals and an assist in aiding TCNJ to the conference victory.
TCNJ's Luber scored just 1:09 into the match as he blasted a pass from senior Nima Rahimi (Wharton, NJ/Morris Hills) past WPU's goalie. The 1-0 lead did not last long as freshman forward Julian Valerio (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) tied the action off a misplayed ball by TCNJ's keeper and knotted the contest at the 4:42 mark.
Sophomore Anthony Staropoli (Raritan, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) broke the 1-1 tie at 46:59 on a feed from Luber to give TCNJ a 2-1 lead. Valerio answered right back with his second goal of the match and his fifth of the season at 57:50. Luber broke the 2-2 tie at 70:18 with second goal of the match and gave TCNJ a 3-2 lead.
Luber now leads TCNJ with his 25 points on nine goals and eight assists, which brings his career total to 30 points in 30 games played as a Lion.
In net for the Lions, senior Steve Scuttellaro (Brick, NJ/Brick Memorial) made 5 saves, while WPU's senior Dave Casper (Franklin, NJ/Timothy Christian) made 8 saves in the outing.
