Box Score

Ewing, NJ… The College of New Jersey field hockey team got back on the winning track as the Lions erased an early deficit and then held off visiting Johns Hopkins University by the score of 4-3 on Tuesday.

The win put the fifth-ranked Lions at 10-2 on the season, while the seventh-ranked Blue Jays dropped to 11-3.

Johns Hopkins struck first as Gabi Henn (Lambertville, NJ/South Hunterdon) used a low shot with an assist from Leah Horton (Wayne, PA/Upper Merion Area) to open the scoring just under eight minutes into the contest.

TCNJ stormed right back as junior Katie Reuther (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) notched her team-leading ninth goal of the season only 1:54 after Johns Hopkins grabbed the lead.

The Lions then netted a pair of goals 27 seconds apart to take the lead for good with freshman Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) getting the first of those and senior Ashleigh Pecherski (Middletown, NJ/Middletown) notching the second. Junior Jenny Lubin (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) earned an assist on Pecherski's goal as TCNJ carried that 3-1 lead into the half.

The Blue Jays pulled to within a goal 6:11 into the second half as Adair Landy (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) scored, but just like the first half, the Lions had a quick answer. This time Lubin got the goal for the Lions with an assist from Pecherski 1:26 after Johns Hopkins goal.

Henn made it a one-goal game again for the Blue Jays with 17:11 left in the game as she knocked in a loose ball. Henn finished with a pair of goals giving her eight on the season.

TCNJ goalie Caitlin Gregory (Winslow, NJ/Eastern) finished with five saves for her 10th win of the season.

In goal for the Blue Jays, sophomore Sophia Tieu (Cupertino, CA/Cupertino) collected seven saves.

TCNJ plays another non-conference game on Thursday heading to Drew University, while Johns Hopkins returns home to take on Bryn Mawr on Saturday.
